I specialize in day and night photography. I like to call it people watching with the camera. I watch how others interact with each other, how they carry themselves, and how they walk down the street. While working on this project, I noticed the mannerisms of locals and tourists and how the city changed from day to night. I noticed social cues and the status quo of how to act in public. Most importantly, I noticed the differences between people of different races, gender, ethnicity, religion, age, etc. I discovered what people show the public and what they keep private. My project has vastly changed throughout creating it. There are things I constantly learned while being out in the streets. First, Charleston is a city full of racism and segregation everywhere you look. Second, Charleston faces a large problem with gentrification. Third, people choose to see or notice what they want. But you never know what's going on in someone's life.
